Welcome to the education and learning area of this site
It is intended that it should provide a useful forum and resource for both Muslims and people wishing to learn about Islam, be they studying or learning in school or beyond and for teachers and schools as well.
It is not intended that it should be compendious or exclusive, rather that it be a starting point and an invitation and stimulus to further enquiry and study.
In time it is hoped that it can be extended and developed and comments and suggestions as well as contributions are welcome.
Education is a central tennet of Islam. The search for knowledge is considered to be a religious priority which is essential for individual guidance and achievement and also a requirement for the wellbeing of society as a whole.
The prophet Muhammad may peace and blessings be upon him said about knowledge:
"Truly knowledge is greater than wealth, for unlike wealth it increases the more it is expended of".
Thus in Islam not only is knowledge itself greatly valued, but also those who teach it are respected as are those who learn and thereby become learned.
As Muslims we believe that learning should be enjoyable and about this the prophet Muhammad may peace and blessings be upon him advised believers to strive to learn something new every day.
The road of learning is open to anyone who sets out on it, no matter how young or old. It is for all people wherever they may be male or female, rich or poor, strong or weak or of any nation, race or colour and to seek to increase in knowledge every day is a guiding principle of a Muslim's life.

There are three main mosques in Islam.
The first is the Masjid al Haram or Sacred Mosque in Makkah at the centre of which is The Kaaba often referred to as the First House because it was the first House of Allah (God) to be built on earth.
The second is the Masjid an Nabbi or Prophet's Mosque in Al Madinah which was first built by the Prophet himself may peace and blessings be upon him with the help of his companions just after his arrival in Madinah after making the Hijra or migration from Makkah
The third is Masjid al Aqsa or the Further Mosque in Jerusalem where the
Quba as Sahra or Dome of the Rock also stands
The mosque is the heart of the Muslim community and as such there are a great many mosques throughout the Muslim world. Many of these are masterpieces of architecture and they span a huge range both in terms of size as well as age.
